About farming on Gower

Farming has played an important role in shaping the landscape of Gower throughout history, creating the place that is so loved by locals and visitors today.

Unlike many other places in the UK, the south facing coast of Gower rarely experiences frost after early May, enabling crops such as Gower early potatoes, a second cropping of swedes, cauliflower, cabbages and many other vegetables.

Gower is famous for the quality and flavour of its meat, particularly lamb and beef. Despite the industrial and mining history of this area, Gower has always maintained a strong agricultural character which is set to continue long into the future, although vegetable growing is no longer as widespread as it used to be.
